The ABC's of Brows.....

Brows help us express how we feel, they frame our eyes and can really make or break a person's look. The ABC's of brows is a quick checklist to see if your brows are working for you!

A is for ALIGNMENT:

The alignment of the brow is a crucial step in eyebrow shaping. If the alignment of the brow is incorrect, chances are no matter what you do to the brow it still won’t look right.

There are three crucial points: the START, the ARCH and the END point. All of these points help form the end resulting shape of the brows.

Let's look at the START point firstly. The start point is one of the points that a lot of eyebrow shapers get wrong and if this occurs the rest of the brow will always look out of balance. In most cases you can find the start point by using a ruler, a pencil or an eyebrow comb and position it from the edge of your nose or the middle of your nostril if the nostrils are pronounced.

The next important point is the ARCH.  The arch determines where the highest point on the brows should be. Even if you are working with a flatter or rounded brow, there still should be a highest point in the brow shape. The arch can be determined in a few ways, but the method that is universally used is using your ruler, pencil or eyebrow comb and position it from the middle of the top lip (the cupids bow) and extending through the pupil (centre) of the eye.

The END point on the brow is found by extending your ruler, pencil or eyebrow comb from the centre of the top lip past the edge of the eye. Where this sits on the brow bone is where the eyebrow should finish.

B is for BALANCE:

Balance (verb)

1. to arrange, adjust, or proportion the parts of symmetrically.

When I mention balance and eyebrow shaping it is usually met with very blank stares. Balance is a very important step in eyebrow shaping and one that is often missed.

The balance of an eyebrow is keeping the beginning and end of the eyebrow even.

Look at the photo below, see how the pink line shows that the start and end of the brows are aligned and even?

C is for CARE:

The brows should be brushed into place every day just like brushing your hair. A brow comb or spoolie brush can be used for this. Nothing ruins a look more than untidy brows.

There are variations for all of the above so it is always recommended to have a full consultation with a brow professional to determine the ideal and perfect brow shape for you.

What makes a brow wow?

For those that know me, you know I am obsessed about eyebrows.

Bordering on an obession that makes people sometimes think I am just a little strange passionate about what I do.

When you watch TV to watch the brows or spend all the time watching a show trying to figure out who has the best brows, you have officially joined the brow lovers club!

Unless I am the only one that does that...ooops.

Seriously, when I see a gorgeous set of eyebrows, my heart beats faster. I get that feeling like something amazing has just happened- you know the feeling you get when you can't believe your luck? Just the other day while picking up some yummy organic veges at The Natural Foodstore in Forest Glen (Sunshine Coast).....I had to try and not be too rude and look at the girl serving me's chest to find out her name....why? I now have this written in my phone for the next time I need an eyebrow model for photos, as her eyebrows were stunning!

You see, I still haven't worked out how to say to a stranger in that type of situation...'your brows are amazing' without coming across weird.

So what makes a brow wow?

It is a combination of many things- the first and most important thing is the brows have been shaped to suit that person. Not the latest fad or the eyebrow shape your best friend has, but the eyebrow that suits just YOU. We are all so unique. Let's celebrate that and revel in our own beauty.

The other factors that make a brow wow are; shape, alignment, balance, thickness. All of these are important in their own way and combined together make the perfect brow . No factor on their own make a wow brow.
